Asbestos Diseases

Lung Cancer

Asbestos caused lung cancer is virtually identical to lung cancer resulting from any other cause and it is just as dangerous. Asbestos makes up a tiny portion of lung cancer diagnoses (smoking is the cause of 90 percent) however lung cancer is still one of the most deathly asbestos related diseases claiming approximately 3000 lives a year in the United States.

Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is known as the asbestos related cancer and claims approximately 2500 lives each year. Asbestos is the only known cause for this rare type of cancer which occurs in the lining of the heart, lungs, or abdomen. Unfortunately the prognosis for Mesothelioma is also extremely dark.

Asbestosis

Asbestosis is a deadly lung disease that is exclusively the result of asbestos exposure. Asbestosis is known for scarring and inflammation of lung tissues, and it stops the lungs from expanding and contracting as normal.

Ovarian and Laryngeal Cancers

Although it is far less likely that one will develop ovarian or laryngeal cancers from asbestos exposure than the aforementioned cancers, the threat is still proven to be real. A majority of the time these cancers will be caused by asbestos in conjunction with other risk factors.
