Veterans Claims

If you are a United States Veteran and have developed mesothelioma or other asbestos related diseases you are entitled to compensation as long as you are eligible, which you most likely are. First to be eligible one must fulfill discharge requirements; however to be eligible one can receive an honorable discharge, a general discharge, an other-than-honorable discharge, or a bad conduct discharge. After this requirement is met, the veteran must prove that their disease was caused by asbestos exposure while serving. To do so one must create an exposure summary, which details the veterans duties while serving, as well as their experiences as a civilian. Generally speaking to have a successful claim one must prove that at least half of their exposure to asbestos happened while in service.

Once a veteran has proven their disease, and that their disease is a direct result of their service they will usually receive disability compensation monthly. Monthly benefits for men and women who have suffered mesothelioma or other asbestos related diseases generally start at about $2,800 a month, but can be substantially more. The government also offers free health care at many veteran treatment centers. If you are a veteran who has suffered from asbestos related diseases and are not sure what to do next, or have any other questions, the Habashy Law Firm offers a free legal consultation to support veterans and their families through the troubling times ahead.
